Ethan Hawke is going viral for nostalgically horny comments during Jenga with British Vogue and British GQ

As Sarah wrote yesterday in her post about the lead actor and actress Oscar races, the BAFTAs breaking for Robert Aramayo over presumed leaders Timothée Chalamet, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Michael B Jordan signalled that the best actor race, at this point, just a couple of weeks ahead of the SAG Awards, is impossible to predict. Voting is still open for the SAGs so what happened at the BAFTAs certainly could have an impact, both on the SAGs and of course on the Oscars. And of course there is overlap between both the BAFTAs and the SAGs in membership at the Academy.

For the last couple of months, Sarah and I have been watching Wagner Moura steadily build momentum, and given that the BAFTAs went with Robert Aramayo, who is not nominated at the Oscars, Wagner could be a choice for BAFTA voters who also vote for Oscars. That said, Wagner was snubbed by the SAGs. So, sure, the SAGs could opt for Timmy again, like they did last year, or Leo or MBJ, but Ethan Hawke could very well be a factor there. He’s been working for decades, he’s worked with almost everyone, there are some who might consider him “overdue”. And it definitely helped that Robert Aramayo, while accepting his BAFTA, singled out Ethan for how he inspired him at Julliard, when Ethan came to class one day to talk about acting and the key to career longevity. If there were any SAG voters watching that night, and of course the BAFTA voters who will also be voting at the Oscars, it had to have been a boost for Ethan’s campaign.

In related Ethan news, presumably while in England for the BAFTA, he played Jenga with British Vogue and British GQ – and this is the snippet that’s going viral. For the youth, the reaction to Ethan’s, um, culinary desires, might be that Maya Hawke needs to come get her dad. For those of us who’ve been around these parts, and who will always know Ethan as Todd from Dead Poet’s Society and Troy Dyer from the all-time classic Reality Bites, this is nostalgia. This is the horny, scuzzy original 90s f-ckboy we always knew. This is the reassurance that the Ethan Hawke who wrote The Hottest State (iykyk) is still there.
